J W Bollom Paints established in the 1970's as a family business and has been associated with the manufacture of fire retardant and decorative paints. With a shop in High Holborn in Central London they were perfectly placed to service the growing market for decorating homes and soon realised that this market could be extended into a new market that was unfolding the need for fire retardant coatings for not only steel but wood and spread of flame on masonry. With recent high profile fires in large council owned blocks of flats more and more councils and landlords are requiring intumescent coatings. Following the death of Jack Bollom in 2007 the company was split and Jacks two son's sold the fire retardant side of the business and focused on Briwax Woodworking products. Tor Coatings purchased the rights to manufacture Bollom fire retardant coatings for structural steelwork, timber and broad wall as well as trim areas, and have grown this business from their manufacturing site in Birtley in Yorkshire.

Known for their high quality Technical Support and Specification Department and their close association with architects and building control officers, main contractors as well as the DIY trade, Tor Coatings offer Certificates of Conformance and Installation with every purchase and all their products have been fully fire tested to BS476:Part 20/21 :1987 and are ASFP approved. Tor Coatings has ISO 9001 accreditation and a member of the British Coatings Federation. Tor Coatings now distribute Bollom products through specialist paint retailers and merchants throughout the UK.
